Air: Asbestos

Asbestos

This air test detects asbestos in the home. Any kind of inhalation, or consumption of asbestos dust is deemed hazardous.

Many homes built before 1980 were constructed using asbestos. Whether it was used in the floor or ceiling tiles, insulation, pipes, roofing shingles or a multitude of other areas, many homes were built using this material. Roughly 75% of the homes in Suffolk County were constructed during this time period, so they are potentially at risk.

Symptoms for acute exposure may include:
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest tightness/pain
  • Dry cough
However, symptoms often don't show up until it's too late, with asbestos related illnesses taking decades to develop. Long term exposure can lead to mesothelioma, and other forms of cancer.
